Unbound '99 was something we will
always try to top. It set the hurdle for all future Unbound trips to come.
For many, it was the first time they had seen the Colorado Rockies -- nevermind ride
the mountain passes. The route crossed the Continental Divide six times; covered the
"San Juan Skyway" and the "Million Dollar Highway"; and took us
through cool towns like Boulder, Aspen, Vail, Telluride, Silverton, and Crested Butte.
And then, who could forget:
- As we pull into Aspen on the
heels of a weekend wine & cheese festival and the streets are lined with women who've
lost their inhibitions in a bottle of merlot, Robert exclaims -- "What is this
place? Whore-town?"
- When Tim asks a waitress about
their Rocky Mountain Oysters and exclaims -- "You mean, between the two of us,
I'm the only one who's had testicles in their mouth?"
- When we pull into Grand Junction
after a blazing-hot ride and Tim points to Kevin and exclaims to the bartender -- "When
we started this morning, he was a Caucasian!"
- When we pulled into the tiny town
of Hotchkiss and Big Dave walks into a local greasy spoon, the proprietor exclaims --
"We're not going to have any trouble, are we?!"
